Everyday I learn something. We all do. Here are the things I’ve learned day by day.

Things I’ve learned today

  • That there’s nothing wrong with my data, actually, thank you very much.
  • That =VLOOKUP(“Oct”,B5:E16,3,FALSE) does the same as =INDEX(B5:E16,MATCH(“Oct”,B5:B16,0),3).
  • 2toria.com needs more pictures.  There’s too much text and it needs breaking up a little.

Things I’ve learned today

  • How to correctly use the MATCH function in Excel so that I don’t pull my hair out trying to get the correct values for my reports!
  • That Ironport email encryption can make your email text disappear if you send office files as attachments from within Word/Excel/etc.  Thought I was going crazy at one point!
  • That The Million Pound Drop is very unfair to lead people on for 7 questions and then hit them with a 50/50 question at the end.  Poor buggers.
  • That Texas, Nevada, New Mexico and California all border Mexico, thanks to the same program!  One day I’m sure I’ll use that information again.
  • That food really does help me to concentrate better.  I need to start eating breakfast every day.

  • How the FREQUENCY function works in Excel
  • That I should always check, recheck and then check one more time for good luck before submitting a report that people will use to make decisions. I already knew this in fairness, but today reinforced it somewhat.
  • That low ceilings are in no way an excuse for colleagues incessant loud yawning through the day, no matter how many times they try to convince you. I just think they just need to go to bed earlier.
  • How to validate my XHTML using the W3C validator. Not quite sure yet how to deal with the errors that came up, but I will soon.
