How to change the default font in Microsoft Word 2003

For the past two and a half years I’ve been working in an organisation where the corporate font is Tahoma and, as a result should be used for all internal and external communication. ¬†Microsoft Word always starts with Times New Roman and, for the past two and a half years I’ve probably wasted a decent hour or two in total changing that font to Tahoma every time I’ve created a new document, whilst thinking all the while that one day I’d figure out how to set Tahoma to be the default.

Today was that day, and it was so easy to do, so I’m going to explain to you how to do it, too!

Ok, here goes – how to set the default font (This is for Word 2003 but I expect will apply to most other versions too).

  • Select Format > Font…
  • Select the font you want from the list (top left).
  • When you’ve done this click the ‘Default…’ button at the bottom left and when asked the question ‘Do you want to change the default font…etc’ select ‘Yes’
  • Simples – now every time you open Word the font will be your selected default.

I can’t believe it was that easy! ¬†Funny how you sometimes put things off because you can’t be bothered to search for it.
